Illustrated History Walks
The group history walks for 2026 start in June.
All walks start and finish at the Heritage Centre and the ticket includes refreshments on return. The walks are at a gentle pace and we stop along the way at regular intervals to share photographs of what the town was like at different points in history. The walks happen on a Friday evening and are then repeated on a Sunday morning.
We want to make sure that everyone can access the history of the town and some people have said that although they would love to come on a walk, they are worried about keeping up or about being too slow for the group . In light of this we are now offering 'seated walks'! Book a place and then come along to the Heritage Centre where the same information and images from each walk will be shared - along with a cuppa - all in the comfort of a chair! Just £5 per person
We also offer walks which can be booked for families, couples, groups and societies which can be booked at a time to suit you. Please visit the bespoke walks page for more info.

This walk starts at the Heritage Centre and covers around 2 miles through the market place, along Hungate Street, Along Marriot's Way to the old workhouse site and then back along Cawston Road.

NEW! Family History Mystery Walks

Calling all budding history detectives. This family friendly walk takes in the Market place, Hungate Street and the Buttlands. Find out about the history of the town and look at some photographs from the archives to see how how the town has changed. Use the information you hear to eliminate all the suspects and find out who committed the crime and solve this 'History Mystery'. Suitable for ages 5+ although younger siblings are welcome (and are free)! All children must be accompanied by an adult.
We are running the same event twice Sunday 14th June and Sunday 23rd August 2pm £5 |
