Escape Game Mysteries

Escape games have become an increasingly popular way to engage children in problem solving activities and they add a different dimension to discovering more about local history.
We have four escape games available to play. Each game can be played as a class, as small groups, or adapted to form part of a family learning day or event. Each game covers a different aspect of the history of the town and uses real historical material as the basis for the story and the activities. Children have the opportunity to explore artifacts and photographs in a fun and interactive way. Useful as a starter to a topic, a summary of a topic, or as a team building activity!  Please contact us for further information.

Writing Workshops

These workshops concentrate on children using a range of historical artifacts to create a character and then use this character as a basis for writing letters or diaries.

Shopping in Aylsham

Picture
One is based around a shop in Aylsham. Children use evidence such as photographs, adverts and eye witness accounts to build up a picture of the shop and the staff who worked there. They then create an event that happened as a basis for their writing, based on the memories of an ex member of staff.

"This was a fun and exciting session which the children enjoyed. They were given a number of different interactive activities all helping to prepare them for their independent writing. The children spent valuable time looking at a number of historical pieces of evidence. Jayne explained all activities in such a way that the whole class was able to use the sources to write a successful final letter depending on their choice." (Class Teacher - Hevingham Primary School)

Queen Victoria's Jubilee.

Picture
The second is based around Queen Victoria's Jubilee celebrations. A variety of historical sources, such as photographs and eye witness accounts, are used to create character and an understanding of how the event was celebrated.
Through the use of drama techniques, children create a character and decide on their role in the event. This is then used as a basis for their letter or diary. This could also be adapted to create a newspaper article.

We are more than happy to work with you to create a bespoke session. Please do get in touch.

“ A Victorian day with the WOW factor! – Jayne really brought the day to life and gave the Victorian Aylsham topic a great start. This really encouraged the children to think about what they would like to find out about and what skills they would need” (Head Teacher - John of Gaunt Infant and Nursery School)

"Yesterday was brilliant, the children were so inspired and have been talking about all the different interesting things about the history of Aylsham, so thank you very much and I have told everyone else how much the children learnt." (Class teacher - St Michael's Infant and Nursery School)
